Apartment to hide

Title Sequence * Art Direction * Storytelling * Motion Design

A surreal apartment building, eccentric neighbors, and one vacant unit that hides a secret. This title sequence invites viewers into a world where each door reveals a new character - odd, colorful, and just a little unsettling.
Through storytelling, visual design, and motion, the project builds a layered narrative inside a building that looks ordinary from the outside, but quickly unravels into something far stranger.

No One Goes Up There...

This project was developed as part of a Directing and Art Direction course during my Visual Communication degree.
The task: choose a well-known Israeli children's book and create a title sequence for a fictional film or series inspired by it - not by directly retelling the original story, but by building a new narrative world based on its spirit. I chose "Apartment for Rent" - a classic story about finding the right neighbors - and gave it a darker, mysterious twist:
a new series titled "Apartment to Hide".

  • The idea began with a simple question: what if the apartment building was the story itself?
Instead of retelling the original plot, I created a new narrative centered around a surreal building filled with exaggerated, offbeat characters - and one mysterious, empty apartment.
I used the elevator as a storytelling device, opening and closing its doors to reveal each neighbor’s world, building suspense one floor at a time.

  • To set the right tone, I aimed for a balance between whimsy and discomfort - not horror, but something slightly off, subtly unsettling.
I built a detailed moodboard and storyboard to define both the emotional and visual language of the piece. Each apartment was carefully designed to reflect its tenant’s peculiar personality, using graphic set design that brought their world to life.
To tie it all together, I selected a surreal, uneasy soundtrack - one that hints at tension without fully revealing it - reinforcing the eerie, playful mood that defines the building’s strange atmosphere.

  • Every frame in the sequence was digitally built as a collage in Photoshop, with meticulous attention to atmosphere, composition, and texture.
Each apartment was designed to reflect the unique world of its resident - from color schemes and lighting to small visual cues that hinted at their personality.

Even the main street outside the building was constructed to set the tone for the entire piece, blending realism with surreal touches.
Once the visual layers were complete, I moved into After Effects, where I brought the building to life through animation, timing, camera movement, and sound - turning still scenes into a flowing, eerie narrative.
